After using CS Fax successfully on the 650, I have now tried using it on the 700p. The first difference was that the software suggested I change modem settings to Class 2.0.
My first test involved receiving a fax. The software appeared to be ready to receive the fax but the phone picked the call up instead.
I will try to send a fax and post the results. |

This is the first report we've heard of from the 700p, so thanks kindly. If you could send us a log of a receive (actually, just set up receive, then cancel out, Display Log, Copy to Clipboard and mail it our way) and/or a send that'd be much appreciated. |

|
|
Downloaded the trial today. After the first fax attempt on my new Treo 700p, I received a message to switch to the 2.0 fax setting. I made the change and it worked perfectly on the second try. Sending a fax however was a different story. Each time I attempt to send, the phone dials the number with "ATDT" in front of it. The call doesn't go through and I receive the message "Unable to read answer". Not sure of the reason for the message as the fax machine I'm testing with doesn't even ring. I've tried to change settings to correct this, but so far have been unsuccessful. Is there something I am missing? Also, are there any plans in the future to add a print function to the app. I plan on using a bluetooth mobile printer with the Treo for invoicing. Being able to print faxes for customers would be huge. Even if sending faxes with the 700p isn't possible at this point, I still intend on purchasing the app. for receiving. That in itself is very beneficial. |

The jury's still out on the 700P right now. We've had some great logs sent in (and we'd welcome more), but some of the errors are odd, almost erratic. There is some possibility that it's an issue with the 700P's chipset, but it's too early to tell yet.
One thing we're looking for now is repeat testing - does the 700P reliably fail (as in the same way each time?), or does it seem to change from run to run, and also news of results faxing to different machines. It may also help to try any of 1) faxing at a slower setting, 2) using XON/XOFF instead of RTS/CTS (unlikely), and/or try some experiments with no flow control at all. Any of these is likely to fail, but the nature of the failure, which the log might catch, will provide insight into how this new hardware behaves.
As for printing, we'll just say that it had crossed our minds as well. |

I had the same experience as reasby12, the receive works ok but the send doesn't. The modem initializes ok and tries to dial, but times out on the Dialing...ATDT...... screen. Then it says "No Carrier". I tried it 4 times with the same failure mode. |

Is there anyone here on the forums with a 700P and basic familiarity with modem AT commands? It's very surprising that it's having any issues on sending a fax - it sounds like it's not dialing at all?
It would be informative to have someone grab a copy of CS Online (our terminal program,) connect to the modem and try talking to the modem by hand with ATDT, to see if we can even dial and how it responds. |

I have consistently been unable to send faxes, though I have received. I have changed settings and receive the no carier message, even making the last changes suggested. |

Sorry if this seems pedantic, but it's important. When you say consistently, do you mean it fails on send every time, or almost every time? Or just a whole lot? (Like 80%) |

We've received a number of logs recently which are a little surprising and quite clear - at least in one user's case, the 700P isn't dialing at all.
This is a real short trip - if the 700P won't dial the phone, we most certainly can't send a fax.
We appreciate feedback from anyone who both can and can't send faxes. The important lines to look for in the CS Fax "Display Log" feature are:
...
Dialing...
OUT:ATDTX-XXX-XXXXXXX_
IN:ATDTX-XXX-XXXXXXX
IN:
IN:NO CARRIER
...
Where XXX is the number you're trying to fax to. As a test for 700P owners, try faxing to a handy voice number. From what we're seeing here, there 700P doesn't dial the phone at all and so it doesn't matter what you call, the line won't ring.
Can other's confirm these results? |

I have been able to receive successfully (which was very cool!) on my Sprint 700p but am having the "No Carrier" (mostly) and "Unable to read answer" errors when I try sending. Any idea on a fix? |

So far, while there's a definite issue with the 700p, we still haven't gotten a clear lead on what the problem is. It is encouraging that receive works. That may suggest a flow control issue, though that shouldn't lead to 'NO CARRIER.' Still, as a test, you may want to try using the alternate flow control methods, though hardware flow control is preferred.
The other thing that can cause a NO CARRIER is, after the ATDT sequence has been sent, another character is being sent to the modem. Obviously this isn't happening on the 650, but perhaps the 700p is doing something odd.
If there's anyone who's familiar with terminal emulation, some feedback from dialing out using CS Online and sending AT commands manually may provide a clue. |

So far, no. We've heard from one CS Online user who's switched to the 700p and we've asked them to try some tests. CS Online (the data recorder/terminal emulator) is a great diagnostic tool for this kind of thing, so we just need to hook someone who has basic ATDT command experience up with a copy of that and a 700p and that should tell us whether it's something we can work around in software or whether it's a hard issue in the 700p firmware. |

Here's a test for someone to try on the 700p. The following command can be issued from the dialing pad of the 700p. Type in the "phone number":
##EVDO# (##3836#) for Sprint or
*#EVDO# (#*#3836#) for Verizon
and hit the Dial button. This will pop up an option dialog that you can use to Force 1xRTT mode, EVDO mode, or Automatic (both unchecked.) Normally you're always want to leave it in Automatic mode, but for the purposes of a test, try forcing the 700p to 1xRTT mode and then try sending a fax with CS Fax.
Remember to switch your phone back to Automatic after the test. |

I tried your instructions to switch to 1xRTT on my 700P and send a fax - it didn't work. Here is the log file.

What are the settings being used to receive faxes successfully using the 700P with Sprint? |

I believe you can set the 700p up as a CDMA Treo 650. So for Modem, select Treo 650 (CDMA) and for Port: pick Wireless Modem
After you've checked those, tap Edit Settings to verify the Advanced Modem Settings, which should be:
Speed: 19200
Type: Class 2.0
Connection: CDMA
Use RTS/CTS: checked
Use XON/XOFF: clear
Timeout: 60
Init String: ATZ
The settings are carrier dependent and even location dependent, if you're in a poor quality service area for your carrier, but for Sprint and Verizon these should do. |

Tec:
Are you able to access the folks at Palm and ask them what the deal is between the 700p and the 650 and why you can't send on the 700? |
